Description
Yes, I know, I know... I need to stop making Brodin proposals. But I can't help myself...

Trade might need a draft pick or something thrown in on either side but I think it's a good starting point. Mittelstadt immediately becomes the Wild's best prospect and future top 6 center, an area of need for them especially if Kaprizov decides not to come over from the K. And he's a Minnesota kid. Deslauriers fills the role of a gritty hard-hitting fourth liner that Minnesota is lacking, and is on a cheap contract. Brodin becomes Buffalo's top line LHD for the foreseeable future.

I used that cap space to re-sign all the important RFAs to their QO prices while picking up a solid backup goalie and vet 4th line center, and sign a couple faceless depth pieces to fill out the roster. It sounds like Folin won't actually be extended a QO but they still want to sign him, so his price might end up slightly lower than $850k but it's close enough. Also, I'm not sure $1.525m is enough to land Brian Boyle but a man can dream eh?

Edit: I decided to knock the roster down from 23 players to 22. Probably don't need 2 healthy scratch forwards sitting around every game, and it lets me put out a much more realistic offer to Boyle.

Tried to update Olofsson's contract and he disappeared on me completely so I created his alter ego to fill in.

That idea bounced around with the 8oa+ for Bordin a couple of weeks ago. It's pretty fair at face value. Good trade, but don't know if either team would pull the trigger.

I saw a few of Mittelstadt's USHL games last year. I think I'd rather have him than Reinhart on Buffalo with the way the roster is setup with Eichel and RoR as long term 1/2 centers. I think Mittelstadt will be a wing, not a center in the NHL.

Buffalo probably says yes to that. Fair deal on both sides.

Yeah, I wanted to take another look at this concept now that the dust has settled from expansion and the draft. And I spent some time getting more familiar with the Wild's roster and needs, and I think this fits them better than some of my previous ideas.

I think both Mittelstadt and Reinhart will be versatile guys that can play both wing and center, but time will tell. Biggest difference to me is that Mittelstadt is a lefty and Reinhart is a righty. He certainly will need to build up strength first, but that shouldn't be a problem with how the Gophers train their players.

I don't see the lefty/righty being an issue. Both are very skilled so playing either side wing shouldn't effect them. Sabres have a nice mix of right and left so it shouldn't be a 7 left and 2 right handed top-9.

I see Mittelstadt being a better fit for Buf than Reinhart. But Reinhart a better fit for MN than Mittelstadt. Part of it is handedness, Wild are LHS heavy in the NHL and prospect pools. PArt of it is center vs wing, Wild need centers desperately.

I can see that. Mittelstadt is quicker than Reinhart as well which meshes with Housley's philosophies as a coach. And to play devil's advocate for a bit here, I understand your points about Mittelstadt being suited for the wing in the NHL because he's weak, but a lot of the same things have been said about Reinhart as well and he's looked better at center than wing in the few games they've played him there. Neither of them are small guys, they just need some time to fill out a bit and bulk up.
