Additional Details:
Rumoured cost is “much less than what Debrincat got”, which was 7th overall, early 2nd, and 3rd. Here we have Kerfoot who can be reflipped w/ retained salary for an asset, a 1st in a better draft, an early 3rd, a B level prospect, and a wildcard prospect that is Nicholas Abbruzzese. I’d be 100% willing to pay more but based off the asking price this might be it(??). Just an idea, and again I don’t care if it’s more this is just my guess based off what the rumour was

The 7th OV is like two late 1st in value or something (might have been the 7th OV+ 39th OV was similar to two late 1sts+late 2nd). Worth noting that it was also said that if they trade Meier to a team as a rental, they might get more than if they trade him to a team that is expecting to retain him.

I would say that for this draft. This draft a late 1st (let’s say 25 OVR) is gonna be worth closer to a pick in the late teens in a normal draft because of how deep this draft is

Yeah, but what if a team at the draft was willing to offer the 7th OV pick for example for Meier straight (less than what DeBrincat got). It's going to beat that offer.

The ask for Meier is a 1st and a blue-chip prospect if I'm not mistaken. So, for Toronto the ask would have to be Knies+the 2023 1st, maybe they will allow it to be a 2024 1st idk. Best case scenario, it's going to be Robertson+2023 1st.

Well that would beat the offer but we don’t need to worry about that happening because no team that is projecting to have a top 10 pick is going to trade it.
The way I see it,
Gap between 7th last year and a late first this year is about another late first this year
Early 2nd last draft < Hirvonen (mid 2nd from a couple drafts ago) + Kerfoot
Early 3rd this year > 3rd that Chicago got
Abbruzzese adds a bit of value
So it’s a fairly solid asset behind in value compared to Debrincat trade but it’s not super far behind, and depending on how big the gap in the returns is expected to be between Debrincat and Meier, this might get it done

Missing that late 1st is a huge drop in value, they would basically only have 1 shot of getting a player similar to Meier. He's a 26 yo PPG established player, so SJ should at least get two chances at getting a player of similar skill. With the draft being deep, they should have at least 1, other than that they got nothing else in there.

Kerfoot won't hold any value in the trade for SJ since he has no term.
