And when he comes to an offer sheet, what team could afford to sign McDavid (a contender) to a 13m a year contract.....no one. So I kinda think the Oilers are just bidding against themselves if the salary is over 11m a year. Of course, this might be Chiarilli's thinking after all Russell got 4 X 4. Who else was paying that much?

I mean Sid took a small discount on his third contract but if you did follow that logic Mcdavid would get 5x13million. Based on the cap rising approx 2mil per year at time of resigning he would be 8x12.75. so what are the Oilers saving. I put $14 but rumor is it's $13.

If you assume I over paid by ~1mil for Drai and Mcdavid and you trade Nuge you gain 8mil. Pool party is 4mil and Talbot 5mil that's an increase of 4mil. Leaving 4mil for nuges replacement. So not terrible
