Description
Realistically, Buffalo's future is already on the roster, so they won't be mortgaging the future to make a deep playoff run this year. The scoring is there. the goaltending is heating up, but the defensive side of the puck could use some improvement, both from the defenders and forwards.

Buffalo turns to a defensive-minded forward in Jesse Puljujärvi to help minimize the chances in their own zone. It'll be a good change of scenery for both him and Mitts and he slots right into the third line.

The Sabres can bolster their defense a bit with word of Zaitsev wanting out of Ottawa. He'll be a good bottom pairing to chew up some minutes and provides a good presence to a very, very young defensive core.

This allows Asplund to join the team on a regular basis, too, and play some great two-way hockey that the team needs right now.

zaitsev is legitimately awful, he isnt helping anyone win anything. even in a bottom pairing role he's a liability, and an exceedingly expensive one at that

There isnlogic in the Zaitsev deal, but I think Ottawa is the team giving up the pick..... Zaitsev is seen more as a contract dump and Olofsson can hold his own on a roster.

You do much better with that deal.

Yikes to that Ottawa deal. That's horrific. Dahlin is 1RD, Zaitsev doesn't even beat out Fitzgerald as 7th dman. Why would Buffalo help Ottawa as well?

You know what, I completely misread Kevin Weekes' tweet. Ottawa is offering a high draft pick, not asking for one. Makes more sense now that I'm hearing how much Zaitsev has fallen off.
