Description
I know Wagner was called up, this is just what I'd do
Assigning Smith so they can still accrue cap space. Either Steen or Lettieri in the top9. Forbort-Clifton has been off the past month and Zboril can get back in. PK should survive. Hall/Coyle netfront on PP1.

I know Wags is being called up, but I don't think they actually plan on playing him. They're just bringing him bc it's a 3 games in 4 nights California trip, so if there are any injuries they are not panicking to call up someone or play short handed. They'll make him an emergency call-up so his cap won't actually affect their cap space. I think they go;

March-Bergy-Pasta
Hall-Krech-Freddy/Zacha
Zacha/Freddy-Coyle-Smith
Fligg-Nosek-Greer

And that's prob why they called up Wags specifically. They would rather have the young guys actually play games in the AHL, than sit in the press box for the weekend.

They just posted the lines

They've should still opted for a forward that has a lower cap hit so they keep accruing more cap space instead of Wagner at $1.35M. One of Koppanen/Lettieri/Lauko/Steen makes more sense.

If I understand how emergency call-ups work, his cap won't actually affect the amount of cap they can accrue. They will accrue the same amount as if Wags isn't part of the 23 man roster, since he is listed as an emergency call-up. This is in the case where JD is put on IR.

If they are putting JD on LTIR, then it doesn't matter.

We'll see for the corresponding move but an emergency callup doesn't affect the cap hit. To be able to use Roster Emergency Exemption (REE), the team must play one skater short for one game and then recall a player with a cap hit below or equal to $850K. This doesn't work for Wagner either. If there is way to make it work without LTIR, they should used it. Even with it, they need an offensive-minded forward which Wagner isn't so there's no reason to call him up.
