Description
I don't know what to really think about Rutherford's comments. Below are my thoughts.

1. Who is GM? JR or Allvin? Why is JR answering questions about players and the direction of the team when in the same interview, he states that he doesn't talk to the players or the agents? Who are you going to believe; the player who communicates with his teammate more than JR, or JR himself? This is fairly insulting to anyone's intelligence.

2. Suddenly, there's a law that prevents teams from speaking on injuries? Since when?

3. Bringing in the team doctors to vaguely explain the Pearson situation (See point 2 above) and not be able to answer any questions? What's the point?

4. JR mentioned he came in to manage the cap, and he wasn't able to do that. Why did he agree to extend Miller so quickly? (see point 1 above) Does he have input on what happens? Who is the GM?

5. Why is there so much drama in Vancouver? I understand Hughes' words hold significant weight, but to schedule this entire press conference around a 3rd line winger's botched surgery is ridiculous. And I say that comfortably because the media changed the subject within 5 minutes of the Doctor's statements being read. Does the team enjoy feeding fuel to the fire?

6. Why would you acknowledge the contract offer you made to Horvat is below market value? This shows your hand (weak).

7. Where is Allvin? Those are questions he needs to be answering since he communicates with players/agents constantly.

8. The treatment of Boudreau is absurd. Would you put your best foot forward knowing you're getting fired at some point? What a motivating situation...

9. Lastly, what type of rebuild/restructuring takes 3 years or less outside of the Rangers winning the draft lottery and already having a deep prospect pool?

That presser just created more questions. I have no idea how they approach this deadline, but it seems like they're going to be open to everything.

This is exactly the opposite of the presser with JR. He stated repeatedly that they value young players under 25 that can step in next season over draft picks that are three or four years away. He also said their intentions are to re-sign Kuzmenko.

After today I think it is fairly clear that despite hiring like 7 gms the Canucks have horrible management and will not be righting this ship during Rutherford's tenure. The most simple and obvious moves of trading Horvat, Kuzmenko, Schenn for picks and prospects and they don't have the foresight to make the proper movers.

Rutherford has to go. Aqua has to go. Until then this team is doomed.

I think we are now looking at a situation where this club will have to trade Pettersson, Hughes, Demko before we ever compete. The writing may just about be on the wall we just havent come around to realizing it yet.

There's no true opposite of the JR presser, because he also stated there's big contracts that will be tough to move because of the player age. He mentioned core pieces may have to be moved in order to rebuild within 3 years. Kuzmenko is going to be 27 and a pending UFA having a career year. What's keeping him in Vancouver rather than getting paid as a UFA? He contradicted himself the entire press conference.

I won't even lie when I say that I liked Rutherford's presser quite a bit for two reasons. One is accountability and two is transparency.

I do think they consider Hughes. I'm not sure how happy he can be when the team holds this presser and essentially calls him a liar. I agree with you, it starts with management. They've gone through countless GMs and coaches over the years. At some point you have to acknowledge the problem may be further up the chain.
