Description
I know it's likely not realistic but with all the talk about a Horvat trade going on I just wanted to see what the cap would look like next year since the only way Canes make the deal is if an extension is included. Obviously Canes would need to give up some pieces if the trade were to happen which is for another discussion but I'd assume Necas, Jarvis, Morrow wouldn't be included. Maybe Drury, a 1st and another piece or two? I wonder if KK would ever make sense from either side - I've heard Rutherford likes him and while he's been ok in CAR so far he certainly hasn't lived up to his potential so I'd be surprised if Nucks wanted him on that long term deal.

Assumes a 1M cap bump and took a stab at contract valuations which may be a bit off but it seems like it's workable for next year and with the cap rising substantially in the years following, the pay bumps to guys like Necas, Jarvis, Slavin, Pesce, etc. are palatable. Might have to let somebody like Turbo go which at this point I think most would be fine with. Have a few young guys ready to get a shot on ELCs which would help in that scenario.

Not sure what Staal would take on his next deal but assume it'll be relatively team friendly and could be year to year. Also wouldn't be surprised to have bonuses included next year so it's easier to fit in the cap next year before the larger bump.

Same can probably be said for Patches. Not sure what he's looking for and still need to see him stay healthy the rest of the year. Even still I wouldn't be surprised if he wanted to stay here, we worked out a deal with some incentives and bonuses around GP.

At goalie I thought Varly made some sense to mentor Koochie and split games. Doesn't have to be him though, can find a veteran 1B option at a similar rate.

I bumped it up a bit to be conservative and b/c I went less than max term but good to know. I doubt they go after them b/c they rarely pay guys long-term at this age coming off a career year but who knows. Fun exercise.

After the kind of season Horvat is having, There is no way he takes 7.5M there's already been talk that Detroit is willing to pay him $9.0M so he's not taking less.

Maybe, but that's based on assumptions. A lot of factors go into a contract negotiation outside of pure dollars. Term, trade/movement protection, city/team/coach preference, true value of contract (e.g. tax implications, marketing upsell, etc.) and on and on. Not saying he won't get 9M, but to say there's no way he takes 7.5 or 8 or 8.5 is pretty short-sighted, especially when there's no real evidence on what offers are looking like and it's pure speculation.

He's on pace for 50 goals and 90 points, Short sighted or not. He's not taking less than 8x8 i can pretty much guarantee you that.
