Description

Florida get cap space to re-activate Duclair. They have a dearth of right handers in the organisation so get back a former 1st rounder in Merkley, a young RHD, a young RH C/RW in Burke who won't get/hasn't gotten much opportunity in Colorado, and a 1st in 2024 (mainly because the Avs don't have a 2nd until 2025 and Bennett is still only 26 with 3 years term) as they have no 1st rounders for 3 years. Avs get a guy who can play 2C to insulate Newhook for a while and who elevates his game in the playoffs in Bennett, and a guy to replace Helm as a PKer and reasonable FO man at 4C.

Landeskog comes back on the second line and Newhook drops down to the 3rd LW and Nieto or Cogliano are scratched or Newhook can drop back into the 4C role between Cogs & LOC and Tierney is scratched.

Certainly if you run with a short roster once Hornqvist does come back. Definitely not ideal though, and it appears nobody knows if/when Hornqvist is likely to return.

Yeah, nobody knows for sure. But he has suffered a concussion this year already and now fights with the same injury that took Pacioretty out. I don't think the Panthers nor Hornqvist himself want to rush his return one bit
