Description
A bit of a gamble for the Avs with all the injuries they've had/have on D but using the Kadri - Barrie trade as a framework and trying to help both teams, as both are in compete now windows. FLA look weak at the left side of the D and have 7 guys who CAN play C on the roster (not saying all are genuine Cs but they CAN play the position). COL are strong on the left side of D (when fully fit) and have a weakness at C. The contract situations etc were somewhat different and the Avs don't really have a Kerfoot to use so I looked for another piece that would have value to FLA as an organisational need. The picks are an extra year on due to FLA having no 3rd in 2023.
Trades
1.
COL
  1. Bennett, Sam
  2. Carlsson, Lucas
  3. 2024 3rd round pick (FLA)
Additional Details:
Bennett = Kadri
Carlsson = Rosen
3rd = 3rd
FLA
  1. Girard, Samuel
  2. Merkley, Ryan
  3. 2024 6th round pick (COL)
Additional Details:
Girard = Barrie
Merkley = A prospect to replace Kerfoot in the deal. RHD, former 1st round pick. FLA has a dearth of players on the right in their system.
6th = 6th
2.
COL
  1. Tierney, Chris
Additional Details:
Minor cap dump for FLA to balance the trade that helps COL with C depth. Tierney can replace Helm as a PK/FO 4C.
FLA
  1. Burke, Callahan
Additional Details:
Another RH player to help with the lack of them in FLA's system. Decent AHL stats and likely won't get much opportunity with the Avs.

You'll note if you re-read it that it doesn't say he is.

a (or A if used to begin a sentence)
determiner
1.
used when referring to someone or something for the first time in a text or conversation.
"a man came out of the room" (or A prospect!)
2.
used to indicate membership of a class of people or things.
"he is a lawyer" (or he is a prospect)

If I were to indicate what you have taken it to mean I would have written 'An A prospect', and most definitely not 'a A prospect' either. Merkley is a good prospect still but not an A prospect.
