Thank you for posting this. I should have made it clear that I really appreciate your publishing this illustration, because I'm completely on your side. (Note that I corrected the error in my earlier post, which you quoted.)
You imply, quite correctly, that there are three ways to address this issue:
1. Buy Petersen out this summer. Wrong for the reasons we both cite -- raises his cap hit from $3.85 million to $5,166,667 (making the problems of addressing the LhD and G weaknesses worse) and incurs additional negative costs.
2. Buy Petersen out in June 2024. As you point out, limits us to $2 million to acquire goalie help, but that can be alleviated by other roster adjustment(s), for example, trading Sean Walker.
3. Spend a first-round draft pick to dump him. A very unpalatable idea in view of the need for stockpiling prospects at LhD and G {cough Caden Price cough} and the fact that we had no 2022 first.
