Description
GM Bergiven has made it clear Galchenyuk can be moved, they’ll want a centre, a defensive prospect to replace Sergachev and some scoring help. Bozak isn’t a top counterman but he’s definitely able to be a fantastic middle six face-off man. Nielsen is a B+ Defense prospect and Leivo had great stats in a small sample size. Its a stretch but not ridiculous given MTL’s recent track record.

Washington just signed Oshie and Kuznetsov to monster contracts and desperately need cap space. Coming back is Andre Burakovsky who is due for a large raise. We send them to help them compete for another season: Middle six winger Komarov who can move up and down the lineup, a dynamic winger in Soshnikov who can I could see really growing with some ice time and skilled players (not the Ben Smith’s of the worlds) and Marchenko for depth (I also considered Marincin, and Rychel). We also throw on a couple decent picks to help them rejuvenate their prospect pool.

Winnipeg just signed Kulikov to a somewhat large deal, making it apparent they are probably ready to deal Trouba- who will command a huge raise that Winnipeg can’t afford. We send them a package of: 1st line winger JVR on a good deal, a cheaper and still young right handed defensemen in Connor Carrick to play a no. 4/5 defensemen, a B- defensive prospect and 2 1st round picks. A huge payment BUT I think worth it.

These trades gives Toronto an absolute lethal top 9 (all cost controlled for a good period) and also helps beef up their defensive core. And while its generally a bad idea to attempt quantity for quality, I believe these trades all give up quality pieces to teams in need of certain positions.

In all seriousness I don't mean to offend anyone, this is just what I would love to see TOR accomplish.

Sorry, but as a Leafs fan, I really don't like any of these deals and what they do to the team as a whole. It hurts the team long-term and goes against all that the plan has been lately.

What does it hurt long term? I know you want to "draft and develop" but the Leafs window for success is now and this gives the leafs a dynamic and young top nine that can stay with the team long term and a sustainable defense core. If you look long term Marleau is traded with picks to free up space when his play deteriorates, Grundstrom steps in, Dermott, Rosen, Borgman, and Liljegren can all take steps to become NHL defenseman. Than on top you have Johnsson, Rychel, Brooks, Bracco, Timashov to all become the next wave of cheap entry-level players.
