So you're trading Pettersson for 3 roster players with a minor chance that one of them becomes a really good player

Regardless of how high those picks are, when has a single player ever returned that many 1sts in a trade? This is the kind of offer it would take for a McDavid or a Makar - Pettersson is notably not at that level.

Yes the sheer number of firsts is wildly high but you’re acquiring a very young superstar from a team that’s not shipping him. The value is unprecedented because it never happens
