Post Matthews trade the Yotes would still have Geekie, their first this season, and Hayton down the middle. Adding Matthews on top of Cooley would clog their centre depth.

This trade is a hypothetical and obviously wouldn’t happen without an extension or if Matthews signs in the desert as a UFA anyway.

Arizona would never consider that. Also any hypothetical Matthews trade should be compared to the EK65 trade

Any hypothetical Matthews to ARI trade should include both Cooley and Guenther and a 1st and not include Crouse, Minten or Niemela

Yotes say no IMO. Would rather just let the young players grow and by the time Matthews can potentially be a UFA, they can sign him if he wants to join a team that will hopefully be competitive at that time.

Why are the Leafs adding? Why are the Leafs trading Matthews if he's not going to be a UFA? Why are teams trading so much for him if he is going to be a UFA?

None of this makes any sense...

I can't see AZ doing this. What stops Matthews from turning around and leaving once the team's valuable assets have been plundered? AZ will just wait for him to UFA and continue to rebuild so that they have an attractive team on the rise and PLENTY of cap available to make him the highest paid NHLer.
