Description

15 million to work with is not a lot of money. And that is with Garland and Myers both dealt.

On offense, we need a true 2C and 3C. Miller is capable of playing the 2C but he is electric with Petey and going for the nuclear option may be good for both of them.

Some targets for 3C:

JT Compher
Barclay Goodrow
Erik Haula
Frederick Gaudreau
Nick Bjugstad

Out of those, I think that Goodrow or Bjugstad would be the two best options. Someone with decent face-offs and good PK skill.

Wingers will be a battle because of how many we have, but my guess is that Garland is dealt in the offseason for a prospect or a pick and Podz and Hoglander battle for the last spot, OR we sign Barbashev as a centre/winger.

On defense we have a world of issues. OEL is not a top 6 defenseman and Hronek is a second pair guy. Hirose looks legit and I could see him battling Wolanin for the 3LD spot. Bear is a good cheap sign but if not, Johansson looks ready to step in. Bringing Schenn back on a less than 2 mil deal would be a good solution on the Hughes pair and Gavriokv would be a nice signing if OEL is dealt.

In goal we definitely need a backup. Martin and Delia are both AHL starters. Someone like Brossoit would be nice.

I dont hate it, I would be reluctant to give barbashev and compher that long, I would prefer compher because I think he is a better all round player

Ottawa's top 6 is pretty much set. Garland at almost 5 on the cap on the third line isn't ideal given where Ottawa will be in 2 years having to pay Sanderson coming off his ELC.

Based on the post, I think the acquiring team is irrelevant. Just a simplified model for what TS thinks makes sense for Van.
