1 I believe in Woll enough to go with that tandem.

2 That is a deeper forward group than we have now. Look at that third line and you see one heck of a postseason line.

3 This is a team built for next season alone, hence all the players with 1 year left. I believe that JT will negotiate a team friendly deal to retire a Leaf and I believe Marner will extend a long term deal at a little over 11m per year. Even if Nylander gets 10x8 and Marner went to 11.5 x 8, JT at around half his current salary plus a bigger cap increase should mean a lot of cap space is still available to us.

No one is giving us a top end prospect for Matthews because once it’s known he doesn’t want to resign it brings our leverage down significantly. It has to be near cap neutral as well. I believe is it’s made clear he isn’t resigning, he should be moved this summer, preferably before the NTC kicks in. The argument for an LA or a Vegas will be “we can sign him next summer”. That’s true, or you can give away a couple players you won’t resign and a couple second tier futures to get him a year early.

I think you’d still get a great return for Matthews, bc even if he doesn’t want to re sign, you’d still need to secure him going to your team. If you won’t pay for him someone else will.

A team that can’t resign him probably won’t give up a top prospect and a team like LA that would be a favourite has no incentive to give away a big piece like Clarke or Byfield.
