Description
With some interesting ideas floated by others (can't take all the credit) and some spirited back and fourth with an Av's fan (thanks coga16), I am making another attempt at this...

  1. Deangelo, Anthony
  2. Gropp, Ryan
  3. 2019 1st round pick (NYR)
  4. 2020 3rd round pick (NYR)
Additional Details:
Deangelo is both a 1st rounder and an up-tempo offensive dman with grit that could be something to build with for Colorado. While I don't like giving him up, for the Rangers purposes Shattenkirk does everything Deangelo can. The Rangers are also pretty deep on the back end, and have several young dmen who are pushing to make the club.

Gropp, while not a 1st rounder, is a smooth, big forward with talent. He is highly rated by the Rangers and would add to Colorado's future.

The picks speak for themselves.

There is nothing here that convinces Colorado to trade Duchene AND retain salary. DeAngelo is a good piece but is still a piece, not a blue chip potential top line guy. Gropp is a good prospect but that is it. The 1st isn't even in 2018, you managed to under offer in all ways.

The only way Colorado bites on this is if you swap Gropp for Miller or Hayes and make the 1st in 2018. This deal is miles away from the price you got for Stepan and Duchene is arguably a better player and younger.

i mean you have a first and deangelo plus a very good prospect and a third round pick.. greater than the return we got for stepan AND raanta.. duchene is only a year younger than stepan-- and he is on the same level as stepan just a different type of player-- stepan was way better defensively and still put up 50-60 points a year, duchene proved last year hes a bit inconsistent but he is a better pure goal scorer but lacks two way capability.

How is Deangelo not a blue chip/potential top line guy? This is based on what?

Your saying we got a better haul for Stepan, where do you get this from? It was a 1st rounder + Deangelo...and we had to include Raanta in the deal. Your getting a 1st rounder...Deangelo...another prospect AND another pick. That is most definitely more than the Stepan deal...which it should be because I agree Duchene is better...but lets not act like they are miles apart.

Hayes + Deangelo...2019 1st & 2020 3rd.
You get a replacement for Duchene, which the line between Hayes and Duchene is not that far apart either. You get a top pair offensive dman, not sure where you get this idea he isnt a blue chipper...but in either case, look around the league at what it costs for right handed offensive dmen. And you get a 1st & 3rd. Anything more is just silly to bother asking for....your not trading Niklas Backstrom for God's sake...the guy had 41 points and was a -34 last year!!! He had a 70 point season once, he is not an elite level player, you can't ask for an elite price.

So we don't have to go back and fourth, here is some perspective:

Derek Stepan - 7 seasons = 128g/232a = 360 points + 109
Matt Duchene - 8 seasons = 174g/244a = 418 points - 61

Don't think Stepan can score 58 points in his 8th season to fill the gap? This is almost evidence that Stepan can be argued to be just as good! i don't believe he is, but the difference is minor, you are clearly overvaluing your own player!

You could argue that taking the package I just offered...Colorado would be BETTER than last year by adding Deangelo (Hayes washes out Duchene) and most certainly better in the future because both players are younger AND you got picks. it's like you guys traded Duchene...got a return...and still have him on the team, what more can you ask for??? lol

Hahahahahahaha you guys go ahead and think that 7th overall pick is anywhere close to worth Gropp, 2019 1st & 2020 3rd. Especially after admitting that Duchene is worth more. Whatever you say fellas. lol

I will admit..."Hahahahahahaha" does make you pretty cool, but who said Gropp = 7th overall? Who can say that Andersson is going to be more or less than whatever Colorado would do with the 2019 pick? Or that ANY of the players taken after Andersson will or won't turn out better than him??? It's impossible for them to be EXACTLY equal...they aren't EXACTLY the same, there's only one player named Lias Andersson last I checked.

That being said, I am pretty sure the point was that the 2019 1st = 2017 7th overall in a draft that every single expert said didn't have a single NHL ready player in it. Again, facts....not just made up stuff. But if I had known typing Hahahahaha makes my point more compelling, I definitely would have went for it. Well played!! =)

Here, we will make it easier for you...

2019 1st = 2017 1st
Deangelo = Deangelo
Gropp = ??? that's the end of the Stepan deal.....sooo...
2020 3rd = ??? do I need to repeat or you get the idea?

This all equals? Oh, right...MORE than the Stepan deal...got it.

Nothing about Deangelo being a blue chipper?
Nothing about the Stepan vs Duchene comparable?
Nothing about the Hayes counter offer?

OK, cool....thanks for the great debate! =)
