Description
-- Reports are Jarry wants a long term deal and tbh, i'm not comfortable giving him anything more than a 2 year contract due to his recent injury history which is most likely going to lead him straight to free agency and the pens will be searching for a new starting goaltender.

-- Zucker also walks for the same reasons as he wants too much term and money for what has been an up and down tenure in Pittsburgh. Pens look to get younger, so they move on from Zucker.

-- -- Ryan Graves to me is the perfect defensemen to pair with Letang as he is a big body DFD which allows Letang to go out and be himself offensively. Graves also helps clear the front of the net which was still an issue last season and improves out PK.

-- David Kampf is a good bottom 6 center who is better suited for the 4th, but can play 3rd line minutes if needed and wouldn't totally be out of place. He's very good defensively, good in the circle, can play the PK and chip in offensively.

-- -- Bunting is a good TWF which is much needed on Geno's wings and is the most Jason Zucker type replacement in FA. Having Dubas as POHO, I truly believe if we are to get one of the top UFA fowards, it will be Bunting.

-- Matthew Phillips is a low-risk high reward type signing as he finally looks to make the NHL full time as he never got that chance with the Flames. Phillips dominated the AHL (76 pts in 66 games) and is a speedy forward that's not scared to get to the front of the net. His only downside, he's 5'8, 165 which could very well not translate to the NHL. I think he would be better suited in a top 6 role as he gets to play in a more offensive role which can be provided in Pittsburgh. He can play center and wing but with his size, he is better suited on the wing. We have also seen this type of forward succeed in Sullivan's system (Sheary).

-- Nylander, Puustinen and Phillips fight it out in preseason for the final 2 top 9 spots, the one who ends up the odd man out gets sent to WBS

Trades
1.
PIT
  1. 2024 4th round pick (COL)
COL
  1. Granlund, Mikael ($1,250,000 retained)
  2. 2024 7th round pick (PIT)
Additional Details:
Saw this trade a few times on Colorado ACGM's and I would do it 100% so I decided to steal the idea haha.

Needless to say, Granlund did not work out at all in Pittsburgh and it's looking like they might move on from him.

Pens retain 1.25 (25%) which is basically his buyout price in order to deal him.
2.
PIT
  1. Vejmelka, Karel
Additional Details:
Offseason move

My Ideal goaltending target as he has been very solid on a bad Arizona team even though the numbers aren't great on paper. Vejmelka has stolen many games for ARZ while being in front of a bad team and he is under a very good contract for the next 2 seasons that would give the pens much needed cap flexibility.
ARI
  1. 2024 2nd round pick (PIT)
  2. 2025 2nd round pick (PIT)
Additional Details:
Offseason move

With all the goaltending options via the trade market, it's hard to gauge Vejmelka's value so here is my best guess at it.

Conditional 2024 2nd round pick, Becomes a 2024 1st round pick if the penguins make the playoffs
3.
PIT
  1. Colton, Ross [RFA Rights]
  2. Myers, Philippe
Additional Details:
With Tampa being up against the cap, it's going to be hard to retain Colton although it is possible however, if he is on the market, he would be my ideal 3C target for the pens.

Myers is added to the deal to give Tampa a little wiggle room although it isn't much, but they could use all the money they can free up.
TBL
  1. Joseph, Pierre-Olivier
  2. O'Connor, Drew
Additional Details:
POJ or Ty Smith. Either or gives Tampa a solid cheap left shot OFD with solid upside for their bottom dpair. For me, pens need to move on from one of them for a more proven two way/DFD. Here, I am assuming POJ has slightly higher value based off of last season.

DOC to me feels like a perfect fit for what Tampa looks for in a bottom 6 forward and although I do like DOC a lot, I would be more than willing to give him up if it meant Colton was coming back the other way.
4.
PIT
    Place Holder
    CAR
    1. 2023 1st round pick (PIT)
    Additional Details:
Ideally we move down from 14 and recoup picks and maybe a prospect in doing so, Unless Oliver Moore is available at 14, I would trade down and get what I can.

Canes Accept big time and that placeholder can be a first a 2nd, Drury, Lajoie, and Coughlan (All are mid prospects but can be good depth pieces) Drury can be 3C or 4C like Jordan Staal is. Lajoie and Coughlan can be 2nd or 3rd pairing defencemen and if you want add another 2nd from next year I'll be fine with it

Would you consider something like #30, #71, Flyers 2024 2nd, Vasili Ponomarev and Aleksi Heimosalmi for #14 and #90 ? Im personally not really high in Coughlan and Lajoie

I wouldn't bank on signing 5 notable FAs, I see that a ton on here, but it seems like a ton. Also, I love Vej, but if we're going with him, I wouldn't want him to be the number 1, I'd try to get a Freddy or Raanta to be a 1B instead of Desmith. I'm also just not sold on Graves, he's fine, but meh. Also agreed, that unless Moore (or Michkov) is available at 14, there's no way I'm making that pick, whether it's trading down, or moving it for a top 6 F

Big time Pono and Heimosalmi should be on the block bc if they aren't its bc Waddell can be the most useless GM in the universe (can we trade for Dubas lmfao)
