Canes pass. Pesce is no longer on the trade block, and that package isn’t going to get him anyways.

That would be great value for Raanta, but why would the Canes help the Bolts? I mean, the Bolts are going to have a hard time shouldering the Vasilevskiy injury, why enable a contender?

With that dcore, this team would be especially lucky to even be in the wild card conversation. Great top 6, but absolutely terrible bottom 6. And given the dcore, you likely shouldn’t expect Gibson to be able to carry this team.
All in all, this team is likely to be lottery team.

Canes already removed Pesce from the trade block. And they sure as hell aren’t going to consider moving him at the deadline. If you haven’t noticed, the Canes tend to shy away from big blockbuster deadline moves.

Both teams go for it
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Affectionate_Side_64</b></div><div>You're not sure? Really? Maybe you should look into these things before openly admitting this. They were 2nd in the league in expected goals despite being used as a shutdown pair. Skjei was 3rd in goals among defensemen despite being used in that role and not getting PP1 minutes. Both are bigger, faster, stronger and since Brodie's recent decline are better defensively than both he and Liljegren. The comparison here is not even close, lol.
Teraveinen is a downgrade offensively, though typically approached a point per game before struggling with injuries this season. He is also much, much better defensively and wouldn't need to be relegated to sheltered O-zone starts like Willy this past post-season.</div></div>
These are the reasons why the Canes aren’t going to pull the trigger.

Bill wtf are you doing
My guess is that BG’s entire plan is dependent on if Rossi is able to translate his game to the NHL. Since Zucc is up after 2 years, and Foligno could be moved after 2 years, if the Wild eat half of Foligno’s deal, that opens up about 20mil in cap space (including the buyout penalty reduction, 22mil without retention) for the 2026 season. That isn’t even counting however much the cap ceiling rises in that timespan.
On paper, it is both a smart and quite stupid move. On the one hand, he is keeping the team together, and hoping for players to take that next step forward. On the other hand, he is hurting their chances of being competitive as well as making it near impossible to sign any top talents from the market to potentially improve the team. But being exceptionally reliant on Rossi developing into a top line C, not a wise move. And frankly, I’m of the opinion that Rossi won’t develop into what the Wild so desperately need him to be.
It’s either this, or the Wild are taking a very long look at the 2025-26 UFA class, and licking their chops over Draisaitl headlining that UFA class. I mean, not going to lie here, I kind of want to see how much damage a line composed of Kaprizov-Draisaitl-Boldy could do.

Carolina has recently become a go to destination for free agents. So trading Bunting immediately after signing him to a deal with term will basically throw all that progress down the drain. If it’s going to be a cap move, Turbo or Skjei gets moved first

There are already arrangements in place for the majority of players to be loaned to different AHL teams, or teams over in Europe. Besides, the Canes not having their own AHL team this season doesn’t mean they have to take a crap offer for him.
I mean, by your logic here, if the situation was reversed, the Wings would be more than willing to take something like a 2nd in 2026 for someone like Kasper.

The Pesce move only works for the Devils, and actively screws the Canes over. Canes already removed Pesce from the trade block, and even if he was still on it, he wouldn’t be moved at the deadline, and especially not to the Devils.

Still not a fair price for you guys and giving up guys we need for a guy we don't for us</div></div>
Maybe my wording was a little harsh, but it was just to get the point across. I mean, the only player that would have any value to the Canes would be EK, and that ship sailed. Even if the Canes wanted to do this proposal, they wouldn’t have the space to do it.
