Description

So I’ve played around with a Hanifin trade for awhile. I’m not sure what CGY would want in a Hanifin trade so I went pure futures. It’s a decent haul not sure it’s the best haul tho. Former 1st round pick Gaucher, 2nd rounder Warren who is a little more of a project, 33oa and 59/60oa. Is it enough or does Hanifin require an A+ piece?

Would Henrique or Strome instead of a prospect help? Or is their a cap dump that CGY would attach to help mitigate the cost?

I like the idea of Hanifin but I’m not sure it’s feasible.

Obviously Hanifin would sign an extension.

Myers would have to be a 2024 3rd if we are getting him post bonus

I would hate trading both Warren and Gaucher and a couple 2nds for a guy without term — he will probably want 7+ with max term on his next deal

Got a week to figure out if he’d be interested in signing long term. Hanifin just fits a lot of holes, top 4 guy, only 26. Feels like the best available name out there that would fit the ducks and their timeline. At some point the picks/prospects will have to be used to make the ducks better but that probably won’t start until next offseason.

It's still trading away the exact type of RHD we need to acquire a LHD. If it's just top 4 as the requirement and not a #1 guy, why not chase Graves as a UFA? Maybe not as good, but also, keeping all those assets. Gaucher is exactly the kind on 3rd line guy we will need for deep playoff runs, and Warren the kind of D to pair with our high end offensive LHDs.

I just really don't see the point to give all this up to acquire a LHD. If Hanafin was right shot, maybe I would view it differently.

I think this off-season is a time to add, but I want to exhaust the UFA options first before we consider a trade. Heck, if Hanafin wants 7AAV, offer that to Orlov for 3-4 years.
