Description

Step 1: The Leafs should have taken advantage of their late 1st to move Murray and acquire a defensemen in the process.

Step 2: Forget Klingberg, they now have DeMelo or that could even be Dillon if they want more toughness. But DeMelo adds a much needed reliable RHD.

Step 3: Domi and Bertuzzi were solid signings. I do think Domi will be a disappointment compared to the hype. He may provide a bit more offense, but is going to be a liability defensively.

Step 4: Samsonov is signed to a solid deal for 4 years. He will get a deal closer to 4 mil than 3 if the length is any more than 1 year.

An important part of this retool includes the flexibility to allow Giordano to sit some games and to carry a 13th forward. They can send Knies up and down to save cap space for the deadline if they need more flexibility.
