This is an interesting proposal here. You volunteer to take on the two contracts that Pitt is clearly trying to dump and get more retention on Karlsson, but still get two firsts for taking on bad contracts. I predict some hate coming this post's way, but frankly I see this as a viable solution. San Jose gets another year on the tank train to build things up and might even be able to flip Petry and Granlund at the deadline if they put up some numbers. Call me stupid, but I think this is 4D chess and I'm a fan.

Mike Grier isn't eating $16,000,000 on Karlssom plus eating 2 x $6,250,000 on Petry. And that's even if he'd waive for San Jose which is very doubtful. That offer doesn't get Karlsson with that much retained. And it's extremely doubtful that Mike Grier would be willing to eat that much salary on Karlsson for that offer.

Something like this would probably be alot easier to project if Pittsburgh's prospect pool wasn't so bad. Pickering would be a nice piece for SJS to grab, and in all reality I think you'd need to add him into this proposal for it to make sense for San Jose to take on that much salary and retain that much. Pittsburgh just doesn't really have the prospect pool to do something like that. They have Yager and Pickering and then virtually nothing else which is unfortunate. Maybe a guy like Ty Smith could fit that mould a little better.
