The return for Guentzel is way too light.
You can only retain on 3 guys at once.

Look at it this way.
This trade as is right now is Hoglander for Jake 1 for 1. That's not a good trade for Jake.
the 1 is the cost to take Mikheyev. No one wants an over paid 3rd line winger for 2 years.
NSH just signed Novak for 3.5 and he's a better player. 4.75 x 2 just isn't happening for anyone.
At best it would be
PIT
Hoglander
Lekkerimaki
Mikheyev to make the cap work.
2025 1st
Van
Guentzel no retention from Pit. VAN pays 3rd team if they need retention.</div></div>
Or throw in a 3rd or B prospect and the Pens eat 50%. I assume they're also going to sell Smith so they should have some cap space.

In the Van trade, replace Mikheyev with Lekkerimaki
Mikheyev has negative value
Lekkerimaki is still in Europe
Van still has 4 top 100 prospects after the trade

TBH I imagine VGK is gunna make a run at him with the cap they got freed up with Stone out.
They also love throwing around picks for big ticket rentals, Guentz may be a fit there.</div></div>
Fair enough but the value of Guentzel is not predicated on his resigning. He is likely the best player traded at the deadline in 20 years. If Edmonton doesn't want him, someone else will.

Totally fair about walking but that injury probably doesn't effect his value. The suggestion from me has been:
1st, B prospect (Broberg), B+ prospect (Holloway), B prospect (Bourgault)
Which is only a bit more than yours (probably another 1st in value)

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Haymaker26</b></div><div>Again, you remove context and misunderstand what I say. I'm not comparing him to Smith's first season. I am comparing *right now*.
Smith is scoring like that in his prime and in 2nd line minutes. Robertson is scoring like that in his 1st full season and in 4th line minutes.
Robertson isn't "the next Reilly Smith". That's where he is *now*, not where I expect him to be.
"They don't send guys who have shown something back to the AHL." Someone break the bad news to Logan Stankoven. Don't act like GMs and coaches are infallible.
"A good player but by no means elite." I love the guy and think he's super underrated. But I don't think GMs would bite on a blue-chip prospect and a 1st for Pettersson.</div></div>
Right. Smith right now. In an underwhelming season where he looks lost. That's not a good comparison for your POV (Robertson is good). Now, I will say he has the chance to be a good top 6 winger, but based on everything we've seem so far, he will likely end up somewhere near where Reilly Smith is.
Smith on a good team with a good fit (last year) scored 26 goals and had 56 points. He has 5 seasons of 20+ goals.
Also Robertson commonly plays with Domi and Jarnkrok (3rd line), not the 4th line.
I'm not trying to fight you, I also like Robertson. But, realistically his ceiling is Smith, a good top 6.

Jarry won't be traded. Goalies are too important, just ask NJ or Edmonton.
Also, that Edmonton trade could remove Jarry and it would be fair. Campbell is on his way to buy-out city

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Haymaker26</b></div><div>Please explain to me how having a similar scoring pace as Reilly Smith with less TOI and being much younger = hasn't shown anything yet.
And a comparison to Nail Yakupov, especially his OHL numbers, doesn't make a convincing argument. Yakupov scored really well in the OHL, that's why he went 1OA. He wasn't able to turn that into NHL success. That means nothing when talking about any other player.
But if we want to play that game:
Nick Robertson: 55 goals, 86 points in 46 games
Jason Robertson: 41 goals, 87 points in 68 games
And look how well Jason's turned out at the NHL level.</div></div>
A similar scoring pace to Reilly Smith? The same Reilly Smith who everyone says hasn't worked out in Pittsburgh and needs to go? I don't think that's the guy you want to use.
He also has less TOI because he has been sent to the AHL many times. They don't send guys who have shown something back to the AHL.
I used Nail, not to show Robertson was a bust or going to be a bust (as I stated above), but to state that guys who scored big in the OHL don't always translate to the NHL and become elite.
You mentioned Reily Smith. Let's look at his first full season at 22: 20 goals, 31 assists in 82 games. So to me, it looks like Robertson could be the next Reilly Smith. A good player but by no means elite.

Underwhelming for underwhelming
Karlsson percentiles among dmen with 500+ min:
Points: 94th%
Corsi: 97th%
Xgoals against per 60: 81st%
Shooting Talent Above Average: 97th%
Same categories for Chabot
Points: 74th%
Corsi: 98th%
Xgoals against per 60: 90th%
Shooting Talent Above Average: 76th%
I would say neither player is underperforming / underwhelming.
Karlsson being RD and more of a game breaker gives him a bit more value. Though Chabot is 5 years younger and slightly cheaper.

Here are two players in the OHL at 18 years old:
Player 1: 49 goals, 101 points in 58 games
Player 2: 55 goals, 86 points in 46 games
#2 is Robertson, #1 is Nail Yakupov
Robertson's best year in the NHL is this year: 8 goals and 19 points in 41 games at age 22.
Nail Yakupov had 17 goals and 14 assists in 58 games when he was 21.
I'm not saying Robertson is a bust or going to be a bust but he hasn't shown anything yet.

I see Pettersson to NJD for a 1st and Bahl fairly often. This isn't much different value-wise, IMO.</div></div>
True, but I think that trade is also too light. He is a #1 shutdown defenseman making 4MM for another year. They're expensive

Trades for Jake
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>PensGMwannabe</b></div><div>Vancouver's deal is clearly the best for the Pens. I don't think we will be getting Lekkerimaki for a rental Jake though. Hope I'm wrong.
Carolina was in on EP40, they are clearly looking to do something. Wonder if they would make an aggressive offer for Jake?
Maybe Trotz in Nashville. He seems to be an aggressive GM, always wanting to add offense.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>theleano1</b></div><div>Canucks pass way to much to give up</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>stuuuuuuuuuuutzle</b></div><div>Pittsburgh wants two quality prospects. Edmonton does not have those and Vancouver is probably not ready to give up theirs. You're going to have find a better trade partner or do like Arizona had to do with Chychrun last year and get far less than you want</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Epic_Ninja_Dude</b></div><div>Don't think the Canucks would be willing to do that. Hoglander has been great this year, and will be expected to step up into a more prominent role next year. Getting a potential top 6 forward on a bargain $1M contract will be a major asset for a cap strapped team in Vancouver. Lekkerimaki is also untouchable, only possible situation I can see the Canucks trading him is in a deal for a under 25 top pairing right-handed defenceman with term.</div></div>
So I will say this about Van that makes me think they would be in:
1.) This year they are on pace to get 30 more points than last year. If this this is lightning in a bottle, run with that. If this year is a turning point for them, they don't need to hit on all of their prospects to maintain.
2.) Hoglander is a nice piece but they don't have the space to overpay a middle 6 guy who (maybe) becomes a top 6 guy.
3.) Lekkerimaki is still in Europe. He looks great but it's a large gamble.
4.) Mikheyev is worth a negative 3rd, Raty is worth a 1st. The Pens could take both and lose a 2nd as a part of the Guentzel trade to sweeten the pot a bit for Van.
5.) With losing Raty and Lekkerimaki, Vancouver still has 3 top 100 prospects and great young players.
I think they make great partners.
