ek65 has been just as advertised. just because he isn't on pace for another 100 point season doesn't mean he hasn't worked out.

now i don't know if you are a pens fan, if not, i do not blame you for not watching games, but karl's defense has gotten better and he has been doing just fine.

the only case that attracts pitt is the instance of getting younger and clearing cap.

interesting take.

Karlsson percentiles among dmen with 500+ min:
Points: 94th%
Corsi: 97th%
Xgoals against per 60: 81st%
Shooting Talent Above Average: 97th%

Same categories for Chabot
Points: 74th%
Corsi: 98th%
Xgoals against per 60: 90th%
Shooting Talent Above Average: 76th%

I would say neither player is underperforming / underwhelming.

Karlsson being RD and more of a game breaker gives him a bit more value. Though Chabot is 5 years younger and slightly cheaper.

Poor asset management by sens though. And seeing that pens essentially paid cap dumps and 1st for him... When he was playing better in SJ (not saying he's playing bad in Pitt, just not as dominate), Chabot is worth more than that

This hate for Chabot is wild on this site tbh lol

I'm a Flames fan, watched Karlsson play on Saturday he wasn't bad at all but, outside of his point total and it's not all on him but, Pitts bad PP is kind of his reason for being there. He supposed to make the PP elite and give Letang a break in ice time, it hasn't worked as hoped

Saturday was an unfortunate night for Letang

This! He was never expected to be a defensive anchor, because he never has been, but when your powerplay is the worst that it has been in a long long time then having EK at 10 million a year isn't ideal.

Neither play is underwhelming. Both are great. Just because their teams lose games doesn't mean they're bad. Would much rather Chabot's contract

I wouldn't say Chabot hate but, I think his standing in the NHL as a whole has started dropping.
I think he was expected to be Canada's #1 LD or Shea Theodore 2yrs ago now it looks like a long shot for him to make the team (hypothetically speaking since the 2026 olympics are not a guarantee)
He's still Ottawa's #1D but, you get the feeling Sanderson is taking that spot.

It's Chabot at 2mil cheaper but a year longer.
Karlsson is underwhelming IMO because he was traded for by Pitt so that he could carry the PP and take ice time away from Letang it has gone as hoped but, not entirely his fault since hockey is a team game.
Chabot is underwhelming IMO because his play isn't where you'd hope (Norris conversation), he's stayed good but, he's being passed all around the league by guys including Sanderson who will probably be the #1D in Ottawa next year

With an 88M cap, you don't need to be a Norris candidate and number 1 D to be worth 8M. Sanderson is incredible and his contract is gonna be a steal. Because of how well he has done, people have really started underrating the great things Chabot brings

I mean, I'm not calling him a bum he's just not in the top NHL D conversation anymore and despite age I think his value is about equal to last years Norris winner, so I don't think I'm insulting him

Well the stats would say otherwise. He is a number 1 on a lot of teams and how you worded it sounds better than it is. Norris winner last year for Chabot... but taking in age, contract into account and the probability he had the one last great season in him? On a team letting him do whatever he wanted with no competition for pp time? These factors matter, and its poor asset management. Minute munchers don't just show up and no dman is perfect so I think accepting Chabot for who he is would help this fanbase imo. He is literally in year 1 of his prime years and Karlsson can fall off the map next year, who knows. This has instant regret trade all over it
