Description
Assuming no more roster moves. That defense sure is something, eh? All these cap dumps up front don't leave much room for the young guys, either.

Fire Grier.

Why? this is a pretty good trade for the sharks considering they retained only 1.5 million.

Compensation for three cap dumps is a 1st and a little more.
SJS loses their best layer and retains on him for 4 seasons.
SJS loses another good dman and is still retaining on him.

Grier has lost the majority of trades he's made. The franchise is worse off with him so far.
The prospect pool is better, but most of those kids aren't going to make an impact in the NHL.

1) compensation of three cap dumps would have been more if the pens didn't take on 10 million dollars for 4 years.

2) Karlsson maybe the best player but he clearly doesn't fit the timeline and retaining 1.5 million opposed to carrying a 11.5 million dollar cap hit is ideal.

3) Again you are rebuilding so losing a dman at this stage of Karlssons age should not be an issue.

4) He hasn't lost the majority of trades I'd say this is a win.

5) again you are rebuilding.

I agree, with retention that low this is as good as you can hope for. I'm sure if the Sharks retained more, there was more return available. I'm assuming ownership didn't want to pay Erik $4m/yr to play against them twice a year, though.
