Caps = Kuzy / Mantha (50%) for Backlund & Drury (plus $4.3m cap)

I have a bad vote for Calgary and Washington, all I need is someone to say it’s bad for Carolina and then I’ll know it’s fair.

Hehe okay explain it to me from a Flames perspective. What's the objective? I assume it is to see if Kuznetsov has better chemistry with Huberdeau than Lindholm/Kadri, which could be the case. However if we look deeper, the Flames get a cap dump in Mantha, which makes me think they're not going to try and compete.

Okay let's keep going, Skjei is an awesome D, but where would he fit in CGY with Andersson - Weegar; Hanifin - Tanev; Kylington - Zadorov. We'd need to make more moves for that to make sense. I also don't see him re-signing with the Flames, again a compete now move, that contradicts Mantha. The 2nd round pick is a decent asset, but it's not enough to completely mess up the cap structure for the next 2 seasons. Especially since in 2+ years Huberdeau, Kadri, and Markstrom will really be up there in age.

I’m assuming Hanifin is moved elsewhere for futures, and Skjei is the replacement.. Kuzy with a year of term, Mantha is a reclamation project, but at 2.8m hes worth a gamble.

You could just say it’s better to keep everyone as a UFA gamble and call it a day.
