I'd rather trade Manson/Girard than lose Byram, but we'll see
Yeah same here. But some things to consider:
Avs are loaded at LHD, and if they re-sign Toews they have Toews and Girard offering cost certainty at 1 and 2 LD for several more years, whereas Byram has only one more year of cost certainty.
With Behrens, Hanzel, and Gulyayev on the way in theory moving a LHD (Byram) makes more sense positionally than moving a physical RHD like Manson who they don't have a replacement for stylistically.
Byram is also going to want to get paid more than the Avs can afford in 2025, the same year Georgiev and Rantanen are up.
Byram is also the LHD on the Avs who stands to lose out the most financially by not QB'ing a top PP unit since Makar is there. He may push for a trade to be able to increase his points totals on another team as their PPQB.
Also Byram is the LHD who can net the best return in a trade, possibly a high end up young 2C which would be extremely valuable to the Avs the way they are constructed.
Not saying I want him to be traded btw, these are just some of the arguments for it compares to Girard or Manson.
