Description
Thoughts since the last time I did this:
- Opinion on Brent Johnson has soured a bit. Has a good deal of potential but I've been kind of disappointed by his lack of playing time at UND. Hopefully does better this year at Ohio State.
- Bogdan Trineyev is a silently good under-the-radar prospect. Produced decently in the KHL last year and I'm excited to see him come to Hershey. (I do remember Stanislav Galiev though so I won't get my hopes too high yet)
- Leonard and Cristall are great adds. Left wing has great depth to the point I'd consider Persson Expendable. Right wing could probably use a bit more depth but I like Trineyev and Protas behind Leonard.
- Speaking of Protas, it feels like he's older than he actually is, it feels like he's 24-25 when he's only 22. Same could be said for Malenstyn (still only 25), Alexeyev (23), and Lapierre (21). The bust label is coming out too quickly for some of these guys.
- If Cam Allen can stay healthy he'll be a steal for the Caps defensive depth.
- No true #1 Goalie so far, though I think Stevenson can be that if he continues to develop. Gibson is also not bad but I don't think he projects higher than a consistent backup role.

Biggest Strength: Left Wing
Biggest Weakness: Goalie
Best Prospect: Leonard
Underrated Prospect: Trineyev
Overrated Prospect: Frank (Not sure you can really call him a prospect though)
Favorite Prospect to Watch: Miroshnichenko

Man I was hoping they'd get one of Gajan, Hrabal, or Augustine at the draft to restock the goalie cupboard with some more projected guys. But I can't argue with taking Cristall over them.

Thankfully that seemed to be a no-lose situation. I like the potential of Stevenson quite a bit but having that top tier goalie prospect would be nice. Though then again, Washington has developed Samsonov, Vanecek, Grubauer, Holtby, Varlamov, even Neuvirth and Copley into being decent enough goalies to have long NHL careers, so maybe they can do the same with Stevenson and Gibson.

Yeah drafting Cristall was a no brainer to me as well but I definitely see us drafting a goalie in the second or third round this upcoming draft. Some interesting names projected in that area, Heil, Vinni, Kirsch, Yunin to name a few. Kirsch being my favorite right now.
