Interesting trade, Toronto would take a look at it, but in the end, I don't think this is a fit for either team. Vatanen is a puck moving OFD, Toronto has plenty of. Ritchie is a good piece next to a small playmaker (Matthews, Marner, Nylander). For Anaheim it doesn't make too much sense either. If they want an affordable 3C they can just move Rakell to C. Kadri is becoming a good shut down C but Kesler already fills that role.

i like the trade overall, but the problem is maple leafs have no reason to get rid of kadri. they would rather let JVR, Bozak, etc walk. For the Ducks, they lose a great top 4 D and they will lose, beauchmin, and bieska and need to fill those holes as well. the depth on defense would be a major question mark with the ducks core and overall forward depth being very old, they need to stay young on defense.

Even with Vatanen traded they would still have Lindholm, Fowler, Manson, Montour, and Larsson on defense. Plus Mahura in a couple years, Holzer still has another season after this, Pettersson, Megna, and Welinski should also be ready. The challenge will be going from Getzlaf and Perry to Steel and Jones. Kardi helps with that because he is a stable 2/3C.

leafs need kadri now rather than the package offered. leafs don't have much depth at NHL centre, and marner isn't an nhl centre ever and nylander is a "might be" Ritchie certainly could grow into a 2 or 3 LWer, but leafs have lots of LWer now, and prospects too. leafs have lots of Dmen prospects.

Hey Nick? In what universe is Matthews a "small playmaker"? REALLY?
