Description
Trading Gallagher (rather than Anderson in my earlier proposal) frees up a bit more money for Montreal, but they do not get the 2nd Edmonton first round pick (2025), which will likely be a late first rounder, assuming Edmonton plays like they can in 2024-2025.
Eventually Montreal needs to free up money for a noteworthy free agent signing to get them to the next level when the rebuild is almost over.
Edmonton could feel "safe" in knowing that Gallagher may go to the LTIR in any of the upcoming seasons, given the hard mileage on his career.

I don't think it is so bad for Edmonton, especially if Gallagher goes to LTIR before the end of his contract. Until that time, Gallagher adds a style of play in the playoffs that is helpful, whereas the pieces Edmonton is giving up are replaceable. Ceci and Foegle should not be sorely missed by the Oilers.

Please, campbell is in the AHL getting paid 6 mil in real money, Gallagher is in the NHL on pace for 25 goals as a 3rd line winger, sure he is being overpaid but at least he is in the NHL. I think those contracts offset eachother based on just that aspect. Then you add 3 more cap dumps/replacement level players the Habs don't need and expect that a single 1st is enough for the Habs to take them and add better players going back!? LMAO, get real here, this offer is so bad for the Habs it's almost the same level as offering Armia for McDavid.

The money for Gallagher and the others has to equal out for Edmonton, which is why Montreal takes the other Oiler players, so what do you think is reasonable to add from Edmonton's perspective?

I was trying to keep in mind that Monahan could go down with an injury at any time, given his history and that (so far) Allen's performance at the start of the year may be a noticeable case of playing above his abilities.
