Description
This scenario is obviously post Hossa LTIR placement.

Seabs and Keith have to start playing together again. Seabrook is a train wreck without him. The Seabrook contract will HANDS DOWN be the worst contract Stan Bowman has ever given out.

Forsling has looked horrendous all camp. I see no reason that he should make the team over the other players I selected.

Oesterle has looked good and it is noticeable he is still trying to understand his positioning and playmaking in a new system. I think he will be very good after a month of two more. Kempny has looked almost the same as last year which is a pretty good sign. He will be reliable and consistent. Not sure if he can take on the 2nd pairing time and competition but we will see.

Rutta has REALLY surprised me. He is much more consistent and reliable than I would have ever expected. He deserves a chance at some NHL time.

Franson has looked solid. Doesn't make a lot of mistakes, plays solid defense, and isn't nearly as slow as I expected. He will be a solid 3rd RHD. I see him getting some press box time just to give Rutta some ice.

I think that Bouma Wingels Jurco and Hinostroza all had about the same level of play in training camp. Hino may have been slightly better than them but he was far from great. I personally see no reason to keep Wingels or Bouma as all of the younger players are at the same level or better than them. But anyways I'm sure they'll stay and make the roster. So I say Hinostroza is sent down simply because he is waivers exempt and the rest aren't. "business decisions"

I would like to see Jurco get 10 or so NHL games before they give up on him and send him to waivers. He looked OK in camp. give him one more shot.

I thought Kampf had a better camp than all of those players I previously mentioned.

I haven't been impressed with Kero at all in the preseason and I was a fan of his most of last year. Not sure what happened but he looked bad.

Do you think Sharp and Debrincat will be swapped at all? This may be where things end up, but I could see Q going with Sharp @the #2LW at first. Minor details though.

TBH I see Panik, Hartman, DeBrincat, and Sharp all being very interchangeable throughout the year. All of them are capable of playing either side and have at some point in either their NHL career or Juniors. I'm not sure I see Panik on the Kane line ever though.
I'd personally start DeBrincat there because it will give him an easier adjustment to the NHL. He will see more offensive starts, opponents that aren't high level scorers, and he gets to play with 2 playmakers to set him up to do what he does best. Score goals. Once he's thoroughly adjusted to the NHL in all aspects I don't think it matters if he's playing on the 2nd or 3rd line.

Panik is actually demonstrably worse on the left than the right - something like .32 vs .78 PPG and horrible shot metric possession and scoring chance numbers. Debrincat also has played on the right some, but he's predominantly played on the left in juniors. Sharp is the only one we know can play both side at the NHL level pretty well, though he too is better on the left.

Small sample size though, right? He's really only had 1 good year and heck he's really only played a handful more NHL games than last year. I 100% agree with what you wrote. Just a small sample size of Panik @ LW.

I agree somewhat with the Panik thing but like exo said it is a fairly small sample size. It was also before he became consistent as a player. Either way I don't really see him being on Kane's line so he really only would play RW on the third line.
DeBrincat has played all 3 positions during juniors. He may have played more LW but that doesn't mean he can't adapt to a RW role. Q has him playing there right now.
Hartman played both LW and RW nearly his entire hockey career. He doesn't play the style of hockey where side matters all that much.
Sharp can play all 3 positions but yes he iis probably most productive at LW.
Its obviously better to have a shooter (Sharp, DeBrincat) with his stick towards the middle of the ice though so he can have a better angle and quicker release.

With all of that said, Q is going to try people on different sides all year to find out what combinations he likes best. If there is noticeable chemistry between 2 players they will likely play together even if its not their dominant side. I can't see the Saad-Toews-Panik line being split up unless they REALLY struggle to produce.
