At this point, COL might be better off keeping him to start the season and seeing how he does. He's got 2 years left on his deal, so its not like their going to lose him after this year.

Exactly! This ^. It has never been a necessity to trade Duchene, this is what a lot of people don't seem to get, and 2 years is a long time in life and hockey, he could still be an Av for the rest of his career yet. He's no Ryan O'Reilly petulant sulky kid, and if there is a way to make it work out he may choose to stay.

This is where I disagree. A huge part of the reason teams are hesitant to make a move on Duchene is because he is an UFA in two years. Giving up that much youth and futures is a lot for a player that could be with a team for only 2 years. A possible lockout in 2-3 years doesn't help either. Not many teams who are going to contend this year, will have 6M in caps space or will be willing to give up a top 4 D if they are going to make that push. Now the end of this upcoming season, with the apparent and public issues between the team and Duchene, I cannot see him signing with the Avs with the hopes that a sign and trade happens. If he is not traded, animosity continues and he walks in free agency. Either way the sooner the Avs trade him the sooner they can start a rebuild, delaying the trade delays the rebuild.
