Description

These are balls to the wall crazy moves but in this scenario...

Nylander and Petterson get two gigantic 2 year deals so that they can get a more reasonable 8 year deal at age 27 and 30, respectively. This very well might be from another team. Big risk that they walk and the Hawks end up with nothing.

This Blackhawks only really have to worry about Cap space in 2026 when Bedard's ELC is over.

In this reality I've dreamed up, the Hawks win 1st overall once again in 2024 and will be barred from moving up in the lottery for a while. This makes their 1st round picks less valuable. In addition, this assume Nylander's offers on the open market are sitting at the 7 years x 11 million mark, meaning this short term 2 year deal is closer to half of the money he could make, but gives him the opportunity to cash in big again for 1 more deal, earning him much more money over the long term.

For Petterson, I doubt there is any truth to the rumors, but a similar move could be made where Vancouver would be unable to match and EP40 would be able to do something similar and cash in another deal at age 27.

To give up 4 1st round picks for just two guaranteed years of EP40 would be a fireable offense by Kyle from Chicago. That's not happening.

I get it. Lots of interest because of the rumours surrounding Pettersson. Bear in mind that Pettersson said he wants to be on a winning team and Chicago just isn't one of those. Ultimately this is just a negotiating tactic. He's actually not going anywhere but wants the best return he can get out of the Canucks.
