3.
OTT
  1. Askarov, Yaroslav
  2. Barrie, Tyson
  3. 2024 3rd round pick (DAL)
Additional Details:
Sens pay heavy for a goalie prospect stud that they desperately need. Askarov has shown that he has the skills to pay the bills. With Preds still pushing for playoffs, Saros is likely resigned leaving Askarov expendable. Sens also pick up Barrie who likely runs the second powerplay and then is not resigned at the end of the year.
NSH
  1. Chabot, Thomas
  2. 2024 1st round pick (DET)
Additional Details:
Preds continue to push for playoffs, adding offensive stud Chabot, takes massive pressure off Josi. Both power plays now thrive with a QB on the back end. Nashville also has enough defencisve talent to make sure Chabot's shortcomings on defence are avoided. 1st round pick is red wings.

Nashville does not have enough “defencisve” talent to compensate for another all-offense defenseman; as it is, Josi’s almost too much to compensate for. Also, Saros has sucked this season compared to his usual performances.

I believe Chabot is both an upgrade on offence and defence compared to Barire. While I agree Chabot is not a shutdown guy, I believe pairing with Schenn or Carrier likely benefit the team defensively.

Saros is also having a blip season that he will likely round out. I highly doubt Saros finishes near 900 save this year and even more so expect his normal 915 plus in the following year.

Nashville’s actual defense kindof sucks right now. Chabot's health issues scare me and Nashville should be looking more to Askarov than Saros for goaltending of the future but that trade seems very tilted towards Nashville

That's the idea. Askarov is a big prospect who requires a big return to get him.

If Ottawa really did think it was a one off season, and Nashville decided to focus on a rebuild then Saros coming to the Sens makes sense. However I truly don't believe Nashville thinks they are rebuilding or retooling, they're trying to make the playoffs and Saros gives them the best chance this year and the following even though he is having a bad season.
