His scoring ability is definitely high end, if not elite. If we could build the rest of the team to be able to make up for his defensive and playmaking shortcomings, it could be worth it. But personally, I think a more dynamic and defensively responsible player will more than likely be available. We'll see, though. I am not opposed to picking him, and I am not professional scout. I also don't think his other attributes are quite as bad as some make it seem, but are only in comparison to other high end picks. He could still develop those aspects of his game.

Cap is way too low - reports say cap will be around 87.7M next year, so year after is probably 90M+
I wouldn't be worried about Bedard extension - I'd be more worried about new contracts for guys like Korchinski, Eiserman, Nazar, Moore when the time comes

1) Drai and Rantanen are NOT coming over. So eliminate them.
2) Sam Savoie has a broken femur. He has no timetable for when or if he can even even resume hockey. He's skating in a non contact jersey and that's it so far. So take him out.
3) Rinzel will be likely in AHL getting 20+ top pairing minutes. He'll spend this year and next at Minnesota then Rockford for 1 year and hopefully NHL after that. Therefore, no point in signing Chychrun.
4) Your second line will likely be all 1st year players. Next year Nazar may be in AHL learning and playing and gaining size. Moore will be at Minnesota and Eiserman will be at Boston. I don't think that's a good idea to have 3 rookies on a line together. They'll get torched on defense. Move Nazar up with Bedard and you'll need a veteran LW1 and RW2.

Overall, we are not making big money, long term splashes. We have one of, if not the best, prospect pools in the NHL and we still have 6 more 1st rounders to draft on top of I think 9 2nd rounders. I really don't think Davidson is going to sign guys like Drai, Rantanen, or Chychrun when he can have homegrown talent much younger and cheaper.

I can see him trying to land a #1 goalie to be 1A/B with Commesso in 2 years. I can also see MAYBE one big splash for a top 6 talent.
