I think this team needs to be more aggressive and accumulate picks. I get they're in a wild card spot, but there's no way they can make a deep run the way the west is loaded. They need to draft a 1C and a RD. This roster is not strong, the results are a product of the system.
    batman and OkMan liked this.

I’m totally in agreement with you there. However, this was a response to Trotz saying he’s looking to “find the right pieces.” I gotta assume that means he’s looking to make moves.

For me, trading Saros would be the preferred option. We could get a good RD prospect + a 1st probably. I’d be down for that. Seamus Casey always comes to mind in the scenario

Edit: I do think there’s a lot of potential in this roster though. Evangelista and Tomasino are both offensively-gifted play drivers, but both lack opportunity due to the structure of the team. Afanasyev, Svechkov, ZLH, Kemell, and Askarov are looking solid in the AHL too. This team has plenty of talent coming up, but you’re right in saying that they lack a true 1C/1RD. However, I think the Preds would be more keen on making draft day moves than on selling off a large part of the roster. Trading into the top 10 to draft a guy like Helenius or making a Saros deal to add a 1st and a guy like Casey are probably more likely than a full on tank.

I agree, I don't think it's a full on tank, but certainly a retool. Saros trade is long overdue, he's one of the few goalies that would easily net a 1st in a trade. I like Tomasino and Evangelista as well, but they're not high end top 6 guys, more so secondary scorers. They need more elite, top end talent and the easiest way to get it is via the draft. I can't think of any player on the market now that could have a big enough impact outside of Guentzel, and i'm not convinced Pittsburgh trades him.

To me "Finding the right pieces" is vague. Could mean adding prospects too. Trotz is a secretive guy, we won't really know until closer to deadline. I just can't see this team and prospect pool contending in the west for the foreseeable future given it's current state.
