Description
Subtracting players I don't think are needed and adding players I think this team could benefit from this season and next.

Tried to balance the offense and defense a little better.

Trading Fabbri I think makes sense. He's been playing good but he isn't a fourth line player, where he's been deployed. Trading him for Sturm could make sense for both teams. Sharks are going to need offensive players next season and he could get an opportunity in the top 6. For Detroit we get a face-off specialist who is solid in the defensive zone. We are currently ranked 18th in the league for face-off win percentage.

I don't think trading Sprong would be the best idea but again another player only getting fourth line opportunity. I don't see us affording him next season and I could see a team making a slight overpayment for him.

I might get a bit of slack for moving Maatta and not Gost but we will need someone to run the powerplay and we likely need to move him in the offseason anyways. Don't see him returning much more than a 3rd since Zadorov only got a 3rd and 5th. Calgary will need NHL defensemen for the rest of this season and next.

Adding Trenin brings alot more physicality to the team as well are the 30th most physical team in the league right now. Adding Fabbro brings in a young right handed defenseman who could be a part of the future, room to grow for him as well.

Adding Malestyn bells another physical defensive minded forward to the bottom 6.

I targetted Trenin and Malestyn for their physicality and defensive play but also because they don't actually take alot of penalties. We currently take the 9th most penalties.
Trades
1.
DET
  1. Sturm, Nico
Additional Details:
Something based around this. San Jose could use some offensive players and top 6 players for next season. Bordeleau comes in to fill the 3C roll that Sturm is holding down right now.
2.
DET
  1. 2024 3rd round pick (VAN)
  2. 2025 2nd round pick (VAN)
Additional Details:
Some team over pays for Sprong.
Not a player I think we should trade but getting him signed might prove difficult if we want to upgrade other areas of the team next season.
The guy is 100% effort every shift and I think he would excel in Vancouver under Tocchet.
3.
DET
  1. 2026 3rd round pick (VAN)
Additional Details:
Calgary trades Hanifin and Tanev so they acquire a steady and reliable replacement.
4.
DET
  1. Fabbro, Dante
  2. Trenin, Yakov
Additional Details:
A couple players that can help the team now and in the future for Detroit.
If Nashville decides to sell these two guys.
NSH
  1. 2025 2nd round pick (VAN)
  2. 2026 2nd round pick (DET)
Additional Details:
Sent future 2nds since Nashville has 3 in this draft.
5.
WSH
  1. 2024 4th round pick (DAL)

Sprong should be re-signed.

Can't see Maatta getting a 3rd.

Can't see a GM trading for Fabbri due to his 3 knee surgeries.

If Detroit is still in a wild card spot come trade deadline Yzerman isn't selling.

It makes no sense.

Horrible message to the team.

Hey guys! I don't believe in you.

Red Wings should be absolutely sick of selling.

That's all they've been doing for 7 years!

Now of course if they **** the bed down the stretch like last season then sell.

But there's more to cheering for a team than selling every year.

I know the Sharks will be selling for a few years.

I accept it but hate it.

But if they're still selling 7 years from now I'll probably swan dive off my roof! 😬

It's not really selling, more like changing out players. I spent more assets than I recouped.

Sprong will cost too much and I would rather use that money for an upgrade on D, Matt Roy. There is no way, with the season he is having, that he doesn't try and cash in. He hasn't made any money so don't expect a team friendly deal. I would be worried paying him that kind of money.

Maatta could get a 3rd but I would take a 4th.

Fabbri has been effective while healthy here.

I don't think it sends the wrong message since we are adding players. Quite often you can't just add players without others going out the door.

You're not paying Roy enough in your other CFACGM.

He'll make closer to 6 mil than 5.

I mean Ben Chiarot got 4.75! 🙄

Sprong should absolutely re-signed unless Yzerman can get a 1st or a really nice prospect (I don't think a 2 and 3 is nearly enough).

I think even if this team is in a playoff spot Yzerman can sell certain guys and not damage the makeup of the roster too much. It's not like theyre winning a Cup so would be interesting to see Berg or Soder or Ed up for the playoffs just for experience purposes.

Fabbri + Maatta would be a nice $7M off the books for the upcoming offseason (Roy, Hanifin, Bertuzzia reunion, etc.)
