1.
NYR
  1. Wright, Shane
Additional Details:
Wright hasn't broken through the Seattle lineup. Is currently in the AHL with 32 points in 41 games. Can't tell if he's in favor or out of favor with management/coaches. You would think he would get more of an opportunity in the NHL given his draft pedigree.
SEA
  1. Garand, Dylan
  2. Kakko, Kaapo
  3. 2024 2nd round pick (NYR)
Additional Details:
Has not lived up to the hype of a 2nd overall pick, very good defensively but needs a change of scenery to spark his offense. NYR aren't going to give him up for a pure rental, maybe someone with an extra season left but I would prefer to give him up with someone with more term. Wright is still on his ELC slide, has upside for C especially with the concerns on Chytil this would be a great insurance policy. You could always shift Chytil to RW to see how things work out.

Garand is a great goalie prospect. NYR definitely hit in the 4th round here. Has starter potential but likely needs another season in the AHL.

Big fan of this. It gives you the future C they need. And one that has real chemistry with your top prospect.

I doubt they put othmann on the RW, that will be vesey

Seattle has no reason to trade Wright. They’re letting him develop and a spot probably opens up next year with Wennberg and possibly Gourde gone

Anaheim likely passes

Incredibly easy no for Seattle

Garand is a nobody, a pick in the 50s or 60s and Kakko, who is older, a winger and has a much lower floor.

Not even close for Shane Wright.

And that offer for Frank Vatrano is blown away.

Saying Garand is a nobody is proof you didn't do your HW. Young goalie playing well in the AHL, <2 years from winning the best goalie in the CHL and backstopping canada to the U20 wjc gold medal. Arguably a top 10 goalie prospect rn.

Kakko's floor is similar to Wrights, but Wright does has a higher ceiling (for now, saying this because since kakko is ~3 years older he's more known in terms of what he will be as an NHLer). Hard to compare the two since Kakko never spent time in the AHL (was definitely needed). Wright has only played 11 nhl games (he has 2 points in d+1&d+2 to date) so it's a little to small of a sample, even when just comparing to Kakko's rookie year (d+1, 23 points in 66 games). For the higher ceiling, they get Garand + 2nd. And I wouldn't knock a 2nd round pick, Cuylle (60), Poitras (54), Knies (57), Moser (60), Faber (45) were all mid-late second rounders since 2020.
