No one doing one of these Campbell-plus-a-first-to-get-rid-of-that-awful-contract ACGMs has ever explained to me why it has to be done NOW, instead of simply waiting until July and buying him out then.

And I lead the Oilers-should-crash-and-burn chorus.

Explain to me why EDM would pay 3 picks AND retain 1.5mil instead of just buying him out. Are the extra 1.5mil in savings over the contract term and 3 years of 1.5mil after McDavid's contract ends so important as to warrant giving away two 1sts? In case it isn't clear, the answer to that is "no".

That aside, the whole AGM is rather chaotic and overcomplicated for a team in EDM's position.
