Flames Decline. This does nothing to help them now and I can’t see Tanev or Hanifin being anything but rentals for the Pens

Flames might be interested in acquiring Ryan Graves as a replacement for Hanifin though

Graves likely blocks, but PIT would probably LOVE to send Graves off. Also, if Conroy is expecting to get good value roster players back on rental players, he is delusional.

Well he did successfully get Sharangovich for Toffoli and Kuzmenko for Lindholm, so he’s pretty good at it actually

Graves is a Flames Style Player imo

My point is that like Dubas, you need to pick a path and either go for futures with high risk/reward to win trades or plan on losing the trades. Trying to trend the younger AND better in the short term is impossible and always ends up procrastinating the rebuild. I think CGY and PIT are in quite a similar trajectory as pretenders that were recent contenders. I do think Graves is much better in a different system. That is a failure on Dubas because he lacks the playing style of being an aggressive offensive dman to fit Sullivan's system. Even Pettersson looks like Orr in his prime compared to the slow conservative Graves.

Yeah you probably don’t know much about the Flames or their Ownership Group who refuse to tear it down and rebuild. The want a re-tool and I’m saying we’ll give up the Top Player, but we want quality picks/prospects + lesser players who could use a change of scenery. Flames have been successful this year by introducing fresh faces, so we’d be mining for under performing players who don’t fit a system and or need a fresh start somewhere else
