VAN fans will say "no way we're dealing Lekkerimaki!"
You're right... unless VAN is guaranteed to have Guentzel locked up to an extension before the trade is finalized.

PIT fans will say "no way we're taking cap-dump Mikheyev!"
Thing is, Dubas probably will if it means getting a 1st PLUS Leks. Even through his offensive struggles this season Mikheyev is still a solid possession player, and it's not like he's locked up long term.

Anyways, the moral here is that both fanbases probably wouldn't like this trade. Plus for VAN, even with shipping out Mikheyev it would be difficult to lock up Hronek with a big chunk of cap going to a Guentzel extension next year and beyond.

I don't see it happening. There are other teams that will have good offers for Guentzel as a rental that will beat VAN's offers, and the only way it makes sense for VAN is if they can extend him.

I 100% take that as Dubas. I like Lek as a prospect and the 2025 draft pick likely will be more valuable than the 2024.

VAN will chip something in for Mikheyev, or they will retain on him through a 3rd party. No way PIT takes on 4.75 on a 3rd liner. Dubas has not thrown in the towel yet, they are not rebuilding.
