He actually probably does for Philly. He met his wife when he was in philly and she has family outside of harrisburg.
The Vancouver and Buffalo trades are bad.

Are they able to get a 3rd party to retain??? I've understood it as only the Pens can't retain.

Problem is the Leaf's cap issues so I think they just pass all together even though they really need a RD. In the spirit of this arm chair:
Kap, Johnson, and rights to Dermott for Letang and right to Murray and Simon??? no picks involved due to lack of from both sides and leaf's trade Anderson before

Casey DeSmith finds his passport
Make that Kapanen and then you might have something. I find the real issue is what the Pens want to do going forward at the goalie position. I couldn't imagine them signing Murray to his much deserved bigger contract when they have Terry and DeSmith as cheaper quality options. I'm buying the Murray trade hype around the draft and keeping the other 2 since its been beyond important to have 2 guys that can win games consistently. There's a good reason why they've kept all 3.

Vegas Trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>capsin9</b></div><div>It would cost you Guentzel to get him....harsh reality is if you want to dump caps or trade for great players you need to give up assets. most penguins post I’ve seen recently are sending 5th round picks to dump awful contracts or trading bottom 6 /4th liner and an ahl goalie for top line players. This doesn’t happen normally in the nhl.</div></div>
hahaha... funny how you think Marchessault has the value to get a return of Guentzel. Guentzel who is 24 coming off 40goals with 76pts total last year when Marchessault 28 tops out at 30- 3yrs ago. The only thing making their value even close is that fact that Marchessault makes 5m instead of 6, but then again, Guentzel doesn't have a no trade clause in his contract making it harder to trade. Vegas would have to add something to get Guentzel. Anyways, the trade in this chair is not fair in value and I don't see Vegas taking Guentzel in your highly critical opinion due to making their cap issue worse. I also don't see Ottawa wanting any parts of an overpaid d-man that will not be bought out, but the LA trade is more than fair/close in value. Well have fun tolling other pens fans for doing what almost every other teams fans are doing by over valuing their teams players. One love mate!

Radcliffe from Philly and FU to Sharks
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>PhillDaThrill</b></div><div>Does anybody change their thoughts if Philly gives the #11 pick instead of the 2nd and 3rd?</div></div>
yea don't do it hahaha, the original trade is fair enough to me... with all the teams with cap problems, no team with cap room should come close over paying. All the power is with the teams with the cap room. Vegas, Pittsburgh, Tampa, Winnipeg, and Toronto are in the worst shape, while Nashville, Washington, and San Jose (if they sign Karlsson) are going to push right up against. You can probably throw in Anaheim in there also. Why should Philly pay fair or equal value? They can go to Toronto and get Kapanen or Johnsson and have more control over them. Worst comes to worse, teams with the cap room, like philly, can decide to spend that money in the free agent market instead, saving them assets. As a Pens fan it's a nightmare but one all these teams put themselves in, give me a reason why they should pay fair value to help another team out? Especially Philly who's in a great position and set up for success over the next 5years if not more staying the course set.

Retool on the fly
Didn't know Phil having a 82pts season that ranks tied for 2nd in his career is a decline??? Guess you can make that argument when he had his career best year of 92pts last year ha. Horny I can see your agreement and definitely looked slower but in fairness the dude hit at least 25 posts this year. It was sickening all year.
I don't see the Pens trading to get high picks back. JR will not give up on any team that has Sid still looking in his prime, so he will be looking to add dept players with control like he always does. Maatta is a victim of being in the wrong system and a team that always leaves its D-man on an island. Maatta will bring back more than everyone expects. A young player with size and his skill set will always bring teams to the table thinking their system will get more out of him. He just needs a team that doesn't think run and gun. I don't like adding Karlsson. That doesn't make the d-core better. Johnson, Pettersson, and Gudbranson showed they can't handle the speed and the heavy forecheck that comes with playoff hockey. At least Pettersson is young and will improve. Granted its hard to make that case when almost no one protected the puck or back checked. Also look at all the teams that have won it all. You can't pay 3 guys over 8m and win. No one has done it yet. Doing so usually creates an average 3rd and 4th line and that 100% doesn't win

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dorby</b></div><div>Sheahan didn't get a qualifying offer at $2.05M, so $3M is way out to lunch. Hard overpay for Oleksiak. Also, why so many picks involved in the Sheary trade? This smells like philly cheese steak.</div></div>
Well Rust just got roughly a mil more for more years added on, which is good for both sides. Figure the same will happen with Sheahan and Oleksiak. They both outplayed their contracts last year. Plus it’s more about the years added on under contract and what they will be worth in a few years. Those dollar amount are to keep them longer under contract. What holds up teams about qualifying offers is the money with fewer years. Add more years and teams would be willing to make them commitments. Plus In models, you always overpay. The picks in the Sheary deal are cuz he’s not worth a 3rd cuz of last year but he’s more than a just a 4th.

it would be nice if
The value is more on point than you actually think... Problem is teams out bid each other into over paying. Skinner is at best a good 2nd line player on a legit playoff team. New ownership in Carolina will be looking for picks and young players, so throw a higher pick in this model. Grabner is a 3rd liner that is worth no more than 4m but will get someone to pay a bad contract to him, which good for him. The Kessel to Preds trade, I really wasn't sure, especially the pick. I'm pretty sure against the Jets they had some real trouble scoring goals, Kessel would obviously help that. They definitely missed Neal's sniping abilities in tight areas and it was obvious. What's really funny is the fact everyone, including me, make the Kessel trades but have no idea what teams are truly on it. Would honestly love to see him stay, just don't see it at this point.

Three Way Trade EDM/CBJ/PIT
The biggest problem is Edm cap or lack of. Pens, assuming the cap goes up in 19-20 season, will have roughly over 20million in cap space. Rutherford can easily sign Panarin and if needed to free up more space make a trade of Sheary and Hunwick then, by this model. Though they would lose depth in the lineup signing Panarin which is what really wins, having 4 lines of quality. Can we all just take a minute to laugh at Edm and that contract of Milan Lucic.

Just for s**ts and giggles
I like the team as a Pens fan but there is no way Kunitz is brought back. Dumba is most likely untouchable, plus his next contract will be 2 or 3 years over 5m, then something bigger then 9m a year for 5 plus season. See what the Coyotes have done with Oliver. Numbers of both players are similar. Everything else seems fair. Domi trade makes sense. Would love to see no defense Letang gone (Domoulin would get instantly better)
