If his next contract comes in that $5mill range that offer sheet would only cost a team a 1st and a 3rd. Boston will have to pay him significantly more, $8.5mill +, to get into a compensation bracket that exceeds the value from this trade.

They can't hold both of them forever, at least trading one of them before they walk in UFA allows them to recoup some assets
