Description

Losing Matt Roy to free agency would create a deep hole, but he may have priced himself out of Los Angeles. If so, there would be room to re-sign a forward who might enable Pierre-Luc DuBois to be more productive next season and keep the majority of our bottom 6.

I've left the last roster slot open because we might need more money to sign Arvidsson, Talbot and Rittich, but the team has survived pretty well this season going with 11 forwards in each game.

It might look odd to re-sign 37-year-old Trevor Lewis, but he went around two different Vancouver defenders last night with ease, so he still has the wheels to compete in the NHL and he's still one of the best defending forwards on the League's best penalty-kill unit. I'd bring him back for one more season if he doesn't want to retire this summer.

The only realistic alternative strategy is to re-sign Matt Roy, which would require the Kings to forego Viktor Arvidsson and Blake Lizotte and tiptoe through the tulips with a minimum-contract backup goalie again.
