Description
Steeves & Robertson Qualified. Robertson most likely gonna get more than his qualifying offer but both these guys will be on the roster, so its semantics. Lybushkin is big he can actually play defense and hes a Righty. 2yrs @ $3 is a favourable deal for all. They need a top pairing guy to play along with Riley and one that is more of a stay at home guy. They should pursue Roy, if not, Pesce would be the second option. Liligren has finally come into his own. Top 4 Dman and with RHD at a premium a 3yr @ $3.5 seems about right (slighty overpaying for him). Domi aint coming back because he's proven himself to have a higher value than $3mill, unless leafs can't get a top pairing Dman for Riley. Bertuzzi still thinks hes worth over 5 mill lol smh let him walk I wouldnt pay more than 3 mill for him. Too round out the forward group a guy like Duclair or Mantha on a short term deal would be good enough for the depth. Unless Samsonov wants to take less, they need to sign a solid 1b or back up for woll. All guys listed on the Taxi Squad, are guys that will be at camp, preseason and play the first couple games of the year before being sent down.

Beside Reaves you have lost all gritty stickup for your teammates in the forward group, not a playoff style group. Roy gets more, love Bush but can't pay your 3rd pairing guy that cap hit. Leafs shouldn't sign any backup goalie for more than 1 year. Hildeby is just a year away and him an Woll should be very solid as a 1-2 punch.

Do the leafs trade for Savard from MTL (50% retained) as the third pair D, and use the money to sign a 2nd/3rd line power forward type player? Instead of Duclair a Josh Dakota?

Good idea but don't see the leafs giving up a first for Savard. Leafs still scratching their head for giving away Dakota and Marchmant, the grit they have been missing before this year.

I think you can get a Savard or a Hamonic (Right handed guys that 1 yr left on the cheap that are savy vets) for nothing. Montreal and Ottawa have a strong young dcores that those guys you can get on the cheap for maybe a #7 dman like Timmins and a low round pick.

Wasn't the rumor this year that the habs wanted a first for Savard? They value his leadership to teach the young d-men.
