Description
Off the top of my head I can identify half a dozen games in which the Pens blew late leads, costing them a standings point. Would this be a realistic way to solve that problem going forward?

Hard pass on that Teravainen contract. Even harder pass on spending $7 million on a bottom D pair. I’d much rather run cheap young guys in those sheltered minutes and spend that money on a forward(s). Spending $7 million on a bottom pair when Puljujarvi and AHL Gruden are on your 3rd and 4th line is not smart. Besides, Edmundson stinks and Tanev will opt to sign elsewhere, rather than playing behind Letang and Karlsson.

"Running cheap young guys in those sheltered minutes" on the third pair is exactly why tonight's game is irrelevant, according to @LuckyMoneyPuck:

"This team needs an actual 3rd pairing on defense. That is the absolute biggest priority of the entire team at this point.
This team easily makes the playoffs if it could simply hold a lead. Even with the failing powerplay that can't be fixed unless you replace the coach.
The problem wasn't scoring more . . . it's that they can't play defense. How many points did you drop due to blown leads this year?"

"You can make all the fancy forward trades you want.
If you don't fix the 3rd pairing this team is going nowhere fast.
This team gave up like 14 points with blown leads etc...
14.
They are out of the playoff hunt by 1point if they win tonight.
It wasn't that they "lost" games, it was the really bad blown leads of games they should have won. Dropping multiple goal leads with less than a period left."

nah don't try to drag me into this mess. Spending 7 mil on the 3rd pairing ain't it.
Finding serviceable 3rd pairing doesn't mean breaking a bank on them.
There are over priced guys to play 12 minutes a night. Having said that, the current rabble of AHL level 3rd pairing isn't doing it for anyone. Ludvig Shea, POJ, Ivany, Chad R.... none of them are better than being a 7th guy. Some of them aren't even worth being that. This team didn't win cups with 3rd pairings this bad. Even when guys were hurt they made the move to fix it, hainsey etc.....
The 3rd pair does need fixed, but there are cheaper options.

I'm fine bringing in Tanev. I'll pass on Edmundson though - they can just throw POJ there or something. Combine Edmudson and Teuvo money and sign two forwards for like 10mil and I think we'd be in a much better spot.
