Description
The idea is simple... Improve our defense by committee again but still better than this past year and next year we resign Marner to 11 .75 million and Tavares to a take it or leave 3.5 to 4 million contract. With an increase of about 4 million and saving about 5-6 million we can try and go big fish hunting next hunting for D and be able to resign Chychrun hopefully to about 7 million. McCabe could be an odd man out but depending what what he wants like between 4 and 5, we can probably find a way to make it work.

I agree that Chychrun should get less, the problem is first a rival tax and second many teams will offer close to a 1st and 2 second even when he is a pending FA. So combining a rival tax, I am fine by trading a 1st, for chychrun that is worth it. Liljegren I hate losing but we get an overall better defender and puck in Chychrun. liljregren better balances Ottawa defence core. The added is more for rival tax to hopefully coax Ottawa to make the trade.

Why wouldn't the Leafs just wait and sign 1-3 of...Tanev, Demelo, Roy, Montour, Walker etc?

I don't thinkChychrun moves the needle and the cost is too high. If he was a UFA I may not even go after him over the above list of guys.

Crazy to give up that much for Chychrun. Even worse is signing him to a 7m contract. He's the fourth best Dman on the Sens.
Highly unlikely Kampf and Jarnkrok have Coyotes on their trade list.
