Do you have any sources on these deals that could have been?

Outside of that, hindsight is 20/20. You'll drive yourself crazy going back in time like this.

I liked murray more than most. I think the post mortem is misleading. A good plan with bad results gets horrible reviews. He wanted big and tough with elite talent at the top. He decided to put more weight on speed halfway through- because thats how the penalties and league were trending. Got reinhart at 2 in what looks like a disappointing class, got eichel instead of mcdavid. Got okposo as buffalos annual second tier overpay in ufa. Bylsma instead of babcock etc. The only move that i really hated was lehner- but he chose to get a guy that he scouted that would be under team control, that was cheapish. The rumor was, we were bidding against edmonton for lehner, pick 31 wasnt enough, edmonton offered 16. So we gave 21 and took back legwand which beat edmontons offer. Edmonton took Talbot i believe which has gone no better than lehner. The pysyk trade got us asplund, so we have no idea if thats a win/loss yet. Last i heard on mcnabb was- when he was away from doughty he was third pair at best, and he was a healthy scratch. Not sure how hes doing in vagas. Murray refused to overpay for help on d, botterill was able to acquire replacement level d on the cheap, but the results are the same. Gonna need some luck going forward, we havent had much break our way.

Dlo and fasching are not good and mcnabb and the 2 seconds would be better. I still think reinhart can be a 65 point man he just needs to develop. Sabres were also in on talbot we offered the 1st for him so it looked to be it was between us for those 2. Its not Tim murrays fault babcock didnt come here. And its not like he got a choice between Eichel and mcdavid. The way I see the pysyk deal is that it was one for one. The picks were to move up so we could have left the D out of it.

Fasching is 22 and still looks promising. Everyone wants to jump down his throat because he didnt immediately stick in the NHL which no one promised he would. Sabres fans are willing to make excuses for Bailey and Baptiste, but havent given Fasching a chance. He's a GMTM type, so i dont know how he'll fit on a Botterill team now, but to say hes not good based on his rookie year in the AHL where he got hurt is asinine. He has 14 G 21 P in 57 games in the AHL. At 22.
