Description
In my opinion, the current rosters fate lays in the hands of the draft lottery. There are 3 different scenarios that will happen. One is drastic and that is the Canadians winning the 1st overall (which I will explain last) and 2 are not so drastic.

#1: Montreal don't move into you a top 3 spot and they use there first round pick to a scoring winger or center. The reason why I say that is because a pick in the 7-15 range does not help them in the immediate time or future.

#2: The Canadians win either he #2 or 3 pick and select one of Andrei Svechnikov or Filip Zadina. Zadina has been hailed to have an NHL ready shot, which would mean the Canadians have an improved goal total right away, so if they get the 2nd overall pick they would most likely pick Zadina.

#3: "With the first overall selection the Montreal Canadians select Rasmus Dahlin. We also trade everyone but Price." Yeah, I said it, the Canadians rebuild if they win the first overall pick. The Canadians are in such a bad spot in terms of prospects so drafting dahlin would swing the franchise into full on rebuild mode. Also, there is no way any team would trade away a franchise altering pick to upgrade there scoring. The reason why I say keep price is because there are a couple of player that will bring in a pretty good haul of player like Weber, Patches and Galchenyuk.

I know a lot of people are going to say I'm just a hopeful leafs fan that the Canadians will rebuild, but winning pick #1 would change any franchise, most so for the canadians.

That’s why winning the lottery will que the rebuild instead of try to stay competitive

Honestly...dont really need a full rebuild. Lets say MTL wins the lottery pick Dahlin. We pick up Calvin De Haan off the UFA list this post season along with Mikael Backlund and maybe someone like Lars Eller an you have a team that just went from **** show to playoffs. I know Backlund isnt really a 1c and more like a 2c but its better than we have and all these acquisitions are realistic.

Pacioretty - Backlund - Drouin
Eller - Galchenyuk - Sherbak
Lehkonen - Danault - Gallagher
Deslauriers - DLR/McCarron - Carr/Hudon

De Haan/Dahlin - Weber
Mete - Petry
Alzner - Jerabek

Idea is to add a couple pieces and trade a few for a quick 1-2 year turn around. Eller is back to help solidify Galchenyuk as a proper center again and when need be to fill in for him. If it is possible to get rid of Alzner I would do it, I hear that with some retained salary and for the right price, some teams might be interested in him for bottom pairing. Guys id like to see moved out include Benn and schlemko both of which are cheap bottom pairings guys to playoff teams and I cant forget about Byron who can probably fetch a 2nd at the TDL to a cup bound team. Plekanec may come back on a cheap one year deal to retire as a Hab. Overall you would have a very young team that can definitely give teams headaches.

very realistic analysis but does that team beat Tampa, Pittsburgh, Washington, Boston, Toronto etc... in the east. while it certainly would be much improved and would probably make the playoffs, I just cant see them contending for the cup and isnt that the whole purpose? to eventually win the Stanley cup? that team will be too good to win any draft lottery and nab an elite centre that they desperately need but wont be good enough to win a cup. How does this sound? if MTL does somehow manage to get super lucky and win the draft lottery... does that pursued a guy like tavares to sign there... im sure he'd get a boat load of money. now all of the sudden you just added two franchise pieces without giving a single thing away!!!! like I said, extremely unrealistic. but hey... stranger things have happened applaud

The team might not beat those teams strait away in the playoffs, however with our current picks and any more we may add at the TDL, we should have atleast a couple of center prospects coming up. Next year patches is a UFA so that would most likely bring back another center to add to the mix.
