Description
Marc Bergevin is fired on Valentine's Day like he did last year to Michel Therrien. The new GM proceed to immeditadely trade Antti Niemi to the Flyers (in need of help with Brian Elliott injured long-term). He then deals Pacioretty, Plekanec, Benn, Schlemko and some more at the trade deadline. Comes Draft Day, Montreal owns the # 6-16-20 picks of the first round. They trade #16 + #20 to the New York Rangers for pick #10 and go on to select Quinton Hughes (#6) and Noah Dobson (#10). On July 1st they commit with Paul Stastny and Mike Green on 2 and 3 years deals. A couple weeks later, they add Dan Hamhuis on a one year deal to add depth on the blueline as a 6th-7th defenseman.

Not getting a 1st for Plekanec. Lauzon was a 2nd last year so he and the 2nd going the other way cancel each other out.

agree, Pleks is worth a 2nd at most. He will take a 2-2.5 mil in the offseason when he is a free agent and resign with the habs (if they want him) to finish off his career as he stated he wants to end it in mtl. He will make a great 4th line guy for the habs that has the ability to play on any line in a pinch.

Remember Lauzon was picked well ahead his projected draft rank. He's nothing special as a prospect, top-6 defensive defenseman if everything goes well. He's been injured all year long, wich affected his development. Plekanec is not worth a 1st pick alone I agree. Retaining half his salary + adding a 2nd round pick in a deeper draft than last year tough is well worth a late first (we all know Pittsburgh is climbing the standings finishing strong as always) and a long term project prospect.

The hope to threepeat is strong and they've searched a third line center all year. Plekanec offence is gone but he'll sure shut down the opponent come playoffs time.
