1 star bc you trade vrana that’s just silly ......no need to dump our youth.

Also Hobbs will be good I would like to keep him to replace nisk eventually. Caps could use mcd but we don’t need him.

You've got sixty minutes a side of defensemen here! Hooray!

But now that we've reached that bar, let's look at having a capable backup goalie, and keeping together what's working among the forwards. You've got enough cap space to take on any backup goalie in the league. Wedgewood's numbers are terrible, but behind that, his underlying numbers are also terrible. Pass. http://moneypuck.com/goalies.htm

I get that the Caps could trade away a great backup goalie like Grubauer who has the same save percentage as Holtby and a better goals against average than Holtby, to get cap space, to trade away more great young players to get McDonagh, who plays three more minutes a night than Orpik, and allows them to reach sixty minutes on the left hand side, while still giving Djoos some experience of what playoffs are like. But then the Caps are one injury at goalie or left defense away from elimination.

Teams that win Cups tend to have more depth than that.

So the easier solution is to just swap Connolly or Siegenthaler, or someone for a 2LD who pays 20 minutes of okay hockey on an expiring contract, bench Djoos, and call him depth. If you really want to get a great left defenseman, Edler is about as good as McDonagh, two years older, on a similar contract, has led a team to just as many Finals, and could be a lot less expensive to trade for, both in terms of actual pieces to trade, and in terms of number of games the Caps will play against those young players each year.

Or, really, just trade a 3rd pick for a decent 3LD like Barberio, bench Djoos, and keep everyone else who's playing well together.
